• Although the risks associated with GDM are well recognized, it remains uncertain whether screening and treatment to reduce maternal glucose levels modifies outcomes of mothers
• Whether treatment of GDM and their offspring is associated with any harms
• Oral hypoglycemic agent
• Insulin therapy
• Women who begin insulin therapy require education to ensure the safe administration of insulin
•  Use of insulin is also associated with hypoglycemia and weight gain
• Oral hypoglycemic agents such as metformin are logical options for women with GDM
