Definition of CKD-MBD
A systemic disorder that incorporates abnormalities of mineral and bone metabolism, manifested by either one or a combination of the following three components:
Biochemical Abnormalities of Ca, P, PTH, FGF23, and vitamin D metabolism.
Bone Abnormalities in bone turnover, mineralization, volume, linear growth, or strength.
Extra skeletal calcification (vascular/ other soft tissue).
Term "renal osteodystrophy" is now exclusively used to define alterations in bone morphology associated with CKD based upon bone biopsy (histomorphometric classification)
